Barely 24 hours after a Tamale High Court presided over by Justice Kwame Ansu-Gyeabuor upheld a petition filed by Buipewura Mahama Abdulai Jinapor II as chief of the area, violent skirmishes have been reported in the area.
\nSources told DAILY GUIDE that Danyanpuwura Mumuni, a divisional chief of the area and third in command after the Buipewura, Jinapor II, was allegedly attacked at his residence by members of the opposing gate.
\nThe victim, reported to have sustained severe machete wounds, is currently receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. It is however unclear what might have prompted the latest attack.
\nSecurity in the area hinted that there has been tension in the area since Thursday after the high court quashed the decision of the traditional council to deskin Buipewura Jinapor II.
\nThe police administration, soon after the ruling, beefed up security in the Buipe traditional area to ensure that law and order was maintained.
\nBawa Jewu Awushie II, who until the court ruling was Buipewura of the area, as he had been enskinned by the Gonja traditional council after they deskinned Abdulai Jinapor, despite the ruling, maintained that he was the legitimate chief and the right occupant of the Buipe skins.
\nAbout 50 armed policemen are currently patrolling the township according to information gathered by DAILY GUIDE, while the District Security Committee (DISEC) is making efforts to get more troops to the area to avert any bloodbath.
\nThough the District Chief Executive, Hon Sualisu Bi-Awuribe and Chairman of DISEC have indicated that reports of the latest attacks have not been communicated to them, security chiefs on the ground have confirmed the attacks.
\nDr Abdulai Jinapor, eldest son of Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor, told the press that an official report was lodged with the police after the sub-chief was attacked with cudgels by young men suspected to be supporters of Bawa Jewu Awushie II.
