She converted to Islam in the early eighties  \t\t\t\t\tand choose the name  Zainab.<br \/>\n\u201cI love what I am doing and I don\u00ef\u00bf\u00bdt think I can resign or  \t\t\t\t\tretire from it.\u201d<br \/>\nHer love for the theatre started as a young girl when her  \t\t\t\t\t father used to take her to the cinemas. \u201cI used to tell him  \t\t\t\t\tthat  one day I am going to be like one of those actresses,  \t\t\t\t\tbut  unfortunately he never lived to see me become an  \t\t\t\t\tactress, it\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds a  pity but that\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds God\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds will. When I was a  \t\t\t\t\tvery young girl, my  interest was so much that I used to do a  \t\t\t\t\tcardboard sort of cinema  for children, and I used to charge  \t\t\t\t\tthem half a penny to come and  watch.<br \/>\n\u201cLater, the opportunity came for her to study in England.  \t\t\t\t\tShe was  abroad for six years, as a Federal government  \t\t\t\t\tscholar.<br \/>\nShe left England and came back to Nigeria after her  \t\t\t\t\teducation  in 1965 and started out working in Nigeria  \t\t\t\t\tTelevision as a  presentation assistant in 1966. \u201cThen we had  \t\t\t\t\tan extremely good  leader in Dr. Christopher Kolade, who was  \t\t\t\t\talways monitoring what  we do.<br \/>\n\u201cBack then, we had this Thursday meeting, which all  \t\t\t\t\tannouncers all  over the states must attend, and this kept  \t\t\t\t\tall of us on our toes.  Then it was not a question of being  \t\t\t\t\tglamorous, because  unknowingly, you will be recorded off  \t\t\t\t\ttransmission the night  before the meeting, the tape will now  \t\t\t\t\tbe played back on that day  whilst we are having the meeting,  \t\t\t\t\tand the best part is that, a  younger person who is just  \t\t\t\t\tcoming in will be asked to criticize  you, so that kept all  \t\t\t\t\tof us on our toes.\u201d<br \/>\nAfterwards, she became a presenter and then a news reader.  \t\t\t\t\tShe  presented a couple of children\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds programmes and  \t\t\t\t\t\u00ef\u00bf\u00bdNigerian\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds  Sketches\u00ef\u00bf\u00bd, a programme which was all about  \t\t\t\t\tNigerian culture, and  Diran Ajijedidun of blessed memory was  \t\t\t\t\ther producer. She was  later transferred to Port Harcourt and  \t\t\t\t\tlater back to Lagos, and it  was at that time she started her  \t\t\t\t\tacting career.<br \/>\nShe started with the \u00ef\u00bf\u00bdVillage Headmaster\u00ef\u00bf\u00bd in the 70\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds, and  \t\t\t\t\t she later got a role in Amaka Igwe\u00ef\u00bf\u00bds \u00ef\u00bf\u00bdCheckmate\u00ef\u00bf\u00bd. She has  \t\t\t\t\t featured in so many home videos that she has lost count.<br \/>\nShooting of international film Critical Assignment in South  \t\t\t\t\t Africa, is one of the events of her life that she will never  \t\t\t\t\t forget. \u201cIt gave me an opportunity to see how it is done  \t\t\t\t\t elsewhere, other than Nigeria, where a movie is shot in five  \t\t\t\t\tdays.  I went round the country. I saw how a star is treated.  \t\t\t\t\tFor once  in my life, I was a star, I was treated as a star,  \t\t\t\t\tand I believe I  am a star. I had my own caravan with my name  \t\t\t\t\ton it, my own car  with a driver who doubles as my security  \t\t\t\t\tman. And on days when I  am not working the car is there to  \t\t\t\t\ttake me wherever I want to go.
