Ghana coach Goran \u2018Plavi\u2019 Stevanovic says his main target is to win the Africa Cup of Nations title with the Black Stars next year.
\nThe Serbian was unveiled as the new Black Stars at a colourful ceremony in Accra on Wednesday after signing a two-year contract. Ghana are in a form after their recent exploits at the World Cup in South Africa where they were quarter finalists.
\nGhana has not won the Africa Cup of Nations since 1982 and after finishing third in 2008 Africa Cup Nations and second last year, Stevanovic says it is time to grab the title once again.
\n\u201cNow my biggest challenge in this job is to motivate the players to believe that they can do better and this is very challenging because they have achieved so much,\u201d \u201cThe Black Stars of Ghana mirrors the country\u2019s image and we can not play with it because it is such a very powerful tool.
\n\u201cI appreciate and congratulate my immediate predecessor with what he has done for Ghana , but I say IT IS NOW TIME FOR TROPHIES. \u201cIt has been 30 years since Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations title. The Black Stars were third in 2008, second in 2010 \u2013 it is time to be first again ,\u201d Stevanovic said amid dancing and singing.
\nStevanovic guided Partizan to the Serbian league title last season before resigning in April and had previously worked as an assistant coach for his country at the World Cup in 2006.
\nHe is Ghana\u2019s third Serbian coach since 2004 following the reigns of 56-year-old Rajevac and Ratomir Dujkovic, which were separated by a stint with Frenchman Claude Le Roy in charge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
