Taxi drivers in Tema are angry at the Deputy Information Minister, James Agyenim Boateng for apparently denigrating them when he said on radio that the NDC government, unlike the NPP, does not dash out ministerial appointments to taxi drivers.
\nIt is not clear which former minister or Ministers Mr Agyenim-Boateng was referring to. It is however public knowledge that one particular former Minister in the Kufuor administration has admitted on several media platforms that he drove taxi cabs abroad before coming down to Ghana.
\nThe Chairman of the opposition NPP, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey also issued a statement on Wednesday, January 5 condemning the Deputy Information Minister\u2019s apparent slurring of taxi drivers.
\nMr Agyenim-Boateng has since come out to say his comments were not meant to denigrate taxi drivers. But the Chairman of the Tema Communities 5 & 6 taxi drivers group has told Citi News Mr Agyenim-Boateng\u2019s comments are insulting. Mr Ben Odoi said the Deputy Minister\u2019s comments betray the NDC government\u2019s disregard for taxi drivers in the country.
\n\u201cIt is an insult because if you don\u2019t regard some people in the community then how can the community move. They don\u2019t regard us but we are helping the state and if they undermine us we will leave everything to God\u201d. \u201cEvery work in the country is necessary so if they don\u2019t regard us we will regard ourselves.
