The Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Augustine Asante on Tuesday appealed to the Regional Co-ordinating Council and other stakeholders in the Region to contribute towards the participation of Dormaa-based Aduana Stars Football Club’s participation in the forthcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

He called on other stakeholders in the Region including the Municipal and District Assemblies, Non-Governmental Organisations and other football enthusiasts and stakeholders to come to the aid of the Club.

Mr Asante made the appeal in an interview with GNA Sports in Sunyani on Tuesday as part of his New Year message.

He noted that the feat of Aduana Stars in emerging champions on its participation in the first season of the national Premier League should make people in Brong-Ahafo Region proud.

Even though Aduana Stars becomes the second Premier League Club from the Region to have qualified to participate in a CAF international competition, what makes its achievement historic is the fact that most Ghanaians did not give the Club a dog’s chance to survive in the league on qualification from the First Division, he said.

The RAF Regional Chairman stressed that the Dormaa lads not only managed to survive the competition but topped all at the end of the season, thus gaining automatic qualification to represent Ghana in the CAF competition.

Mr Asante said that even though Aduana Stars would be representing Ghana in the CAF competition, its success or otherwise would mean a lot for the people of the Brong-Ahafo Region and it was pertinent for “the sons and daughters” of the region to freely contribute to support the Club to achieve success.

He urged managements, players and supporters of the various clubs in all the divisions to try as much as possible to follow the rules and regulations of the game to ensure sanity at all league centres.

The organizers should also do well to control the supporters and fans during and after matches to save the Clubs and teams from the wrath of the laws of the game, Mr Asante added.

Mr Asante disclosed that registration for the 2010/2011 Regional Second Division League competition would soon come to an end, adding that so far 65 teams had registered and urged those interested to register to do so before it is too late for them.

The RAF Regional Chairman wished players, team managers, supporters as well as all football administrators in the Region a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
