The Road Transport Operators of Ghana on Tuesday announced an 18 per cent adjustment in transport fares with immediate effect following increases in petroleum prices by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
\nA statement issued in Accra on Tuesday advised all road transport operators to adhere strictly to the new approved road transport fares and direct further enquiries to their respective transport unions and associations for clarification.
\nIt urged commuters, who might have complaints about the fares, to contact officials of the Road Transport Operators and appealed for cooperation of all road transport operators and the public for the successful implementation of the fares.
\nThe statement said there should not be any increase in tro-tro vehicles charging 10 pesewas and 15 pesewas, however, fares between 20 pesewas and 40 pesewas should increase by five pesewas.
\nFares charged between 45 pesewas and 60 pesewas should increase it by 10 pesewas, those between 65 pesewas and 95 pesewas by 15 pesewas and any fare above GH\u00a21.00 should be increased by 25 pesewas.
\nWith regard to taxi fares, the statement said a distance up to 2.5 kilometres would be 45 pesewas, 5.5 kilometres is 60 pesewas and 9.5 kilometres should be GH\u00a21.00 and about 29.5 kilometres about GH\u00a22.70.
\nWith inter-city (Long Distance), the increase is between 25 pesewas to 40 pesewas, therefore a fare of GH\u00a22.30 has been increased to GH\u00a22.70, GH\u00a25.00 to GH\u00a25.90, GH\u00a26.00 to GH\u00a27.10, GH\u00a27.00 to GH\u00a28.25.
\nCurrent fares of GH\u00a29.00 increased to GH\u00a210.60, GH\u00a210.00 to GH\u00a211.80, GH\u00a211.00 to GH\u00a213.00, GH\u00a215.00 to GH\u00a217.70, GH\u00a217.00 to GH\u00a220.05, GH\u00a220.20 to GH\u00a223.85, GH\u00a221.00 to GH\u00a224.80, GH\u00a226.00 to GH\u00a230.70.
