IBADAN\u2014 STUDENTS of The\u00a0Polytechnic, Ibadan now have a cause to smile as Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has ordered the management of the institution to immediately revert to the old fees charged before the controversial increment by the Adebayo Alao-Akala\u2019s regime.<\/p>\n

It will be recalled that immediately Governor Ajimobi assumed office, the aggrieved students protested at the state secretariat, asking the governor to cancel the newly-introduced fees by Akala\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

A statement by Ajimobi\u2019s Special Adviser on media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, said the order to stop collecting the outrageous fees from students was given by the Special Adviser to the governor on Education, Mr. Taiwo Otegbeye.<\/p>\n

He explained that the governor gave the order following the misunderstanding by the authorities of the school of the details of the earlier order for a reduction of the fees by 50 per cent.<\/p>\n

The statement said students of the school wanted government to revert to the old school rate as the proposed reduction by 50 per cent of the immediate past government\u2019s increment by the school authorities was considered too insignificant.<\/p>\n

The students were said to have complained that the amount reduced ranged from a token of between N10,000 \u2013 N14,000.<\/p>\n

Mr. Otegbeye said that the reduction ordered by the Governor was a fulfillment of one of his campaign promises to the students of the state that he would cut school fees by half if elected\u00a0 governor of the state.<\/p>\n

He said the polytechnic authorities had earlier complained that the immediate past administration deliberately refused to pay the school\u2019s running grant for two years, thereby starving the school of funds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
