ENUGU \u2013 Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State Tuesday flagged off the state Medical Emergency Response scheme, declaring it to be a significant step in government\u2019s commitment to revolutionize the health sector and ensure that health services got to the doorsteps of the citizens.<\/p>\n

The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Sunday Onyebuchi, said the scheme, which is the first in the country, was intended to complement the rapid and substantial transformation going on in other sectors of the state\u2019s economy. He said that no sector would be allowed to lag behind.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that the state government had donated eight brand new ambulances to the state while each of the 17 local government councils donated one ambulance each bringing the total number of ambulances so far involved to 25.<\/p>\n

The governor commended the state Ministry of Health and other stakeholders in the sector for making the scheme a reality and pledged the commitment of the state government to ensuring that\u00a0it was sustained and efficiently run.<\/p>\n

In her address, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Fidelia Akpa, disclosed that the scheme was an articulated, coordinated and specialized health package to attend to the people who may suddenly fall ill either at home, in vehicles or elsewhere within the State.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
