Facts emerged yesterday that there was no exchange of gunfire between the police and kidnappers in Unuaze village during the rescue of Warri- based transporter, his brother and operations manager by\u00a0 the police in Uromi, Edo State.<\/p>\n

Saturday Vanguard authoritatively gathered from OHUNYON family in Warri that Elder Alex Ohunyon who is the Managing Director of Greener Line Transport Company was abducted on 19th November 2011 by kidnappers at Ekpoma and for 33 days, he languished in their den until his family paid a huge amount to secure his release on 21st December 2011.<\/p>\n

His younger brother Mr Eddy Ohunyon and David Osawe who is the Operations Manager of Greener Line Transport Company were both abducted\u00a0 by the same kidnappers in lieu of\u00a0 Elder Alex Ohunyon paying the balance of\u00a0 100\u00a0 million naira demanded before his release on 21st December 2011.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, Messers Eddy Ohunyon and David Osawe escaped from the kidnappers on 29th December 2011 by scaling the high fence of the compound where they were held using blocks which they arranged close to the high fence. \u201c They climbed on top and jumped to safety and made their way to Unuaze village where good Samaritans sheltered them before calling the police who took them to Benin.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe\u00a0 claim that they were rescued is not correct. It was God that intervened because the Ohunyon family\u00a0 reported the kidnapping of Elder Alex Ohunyon immediately the incident happened but the police did not do anything for 33 days before the family paid money to the kidnappers for his release.<\/p>\n

The family was equally making frantic efforts to raise the balance demanded as they were given 48 hours deadline which expired on 24th December 2011 all this while the police could not do anything to save the situation.<\/p>\n

The Ohunyon family went through serious trauma as the kidnappers kept threatening to\u00a0 abduct more members of the family and even threatened to blow up Greener Line Transport\u00a0 Company in warri if their demand was not met within\u00a0 the time stipulated. Ohunyon family stated<\/p>\n

The most surprising aspect of the kidnapping is that the kidnappers new everything about the Ohunyon family\u00a0 including the bank details of the bread winner\u00a0 and were very brutal in extracting the ransom.<\/p>\n

Elder Alex Ohunyon was chained hand and feet through out the 33 days ordeal and was constantly beaten to force his family to pay the ransome and the threats to harm his wife, children and business was very traumatic for the family. Ohunyon family futher stated.<\/p>\n

The family appealed to\u00a0 Government and security agencies to take decisive steps to stem the spate of kidnapping\u00a0 in the country and make Nigeria safe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
