Queens Park Rangers striker Heidar Helguson has signed a new one-year contract extending his stay until 2013.<\/p>\n

The veteran Iceland international signed a one-year deal in the summer<\/a> after helping QPR into the Premier League for the first time in 15 years.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old has been one of QPR’s best players this season, netting seven goals in 12 Premier League appearances.<\/p>\n

“He’s more than earned this new deal – no-one deserves it more,” manager Neil Warnock told the club website.<\/a><\/p>\n

The former Watford and Fulham striker joined QPR from Bolton in January 2009.<\/p>\n

Warnock added: “I fought tooth and nail to keep Heidar here over the summer, because I knew he could be a threat for us in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

“He’s a credit to his profession.”<\/p>\n

But he admitted: “We know he’s not going to play every game at his age, which is why we need to add to our options in that department – it’s something we’re working on and we’re quite hopeful we’ll be successful in our pursuit.”<\/p>\n

On top of prospective additions in the January transfer window, Warnock also revealed he hopes to tie up new deals with those whose contracts are coming to an end.<\/p>\n

“With a little bit of luck we can get one or two more of the lads that are here to sign new contracts over the next few weeks,” he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
