A TOURIST has been mugged on Table Mountain by a man who appears to have pretended to be an employee of Table Mountain Cableway company.<\/p>\n
CEO Sabine Lehmann said today the mugging happened just before 6pm yesterday and the company was still viewing video footage to establish what had happened.<\/p>\n
The tourist, a 21-year-old man from Durban, took the cablecar to the top of the mountain with five relatives before wandering away from them, Lehmann said.<\/p>\n
The tourist was near Maclear\u2019s Beacon when he was attacked. The thief made off with the man\u2019s wallet, cellphone and camera.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe family called on cableway staff for assistance, who immediately alerted the police,\u201d Lehmann said. \u201cCellphone video footage shot by one of the family members prior to the incident shows the attacker was wearing black pants and a lime green shirt and was carrying a red bag.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said the tourist had mistaken the mugger for a guide employed by Cableway. This \u201calarmed\u201d the company.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are hopeful that the cellphone footage will help the police make an arrest.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will be showing this footage to our staff in case they can assist the police in identifying the mugger,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
