ABEOKUTA\u2014 Tragedy Struck\u00a0 on Tuesday evening, when two cars reportedly plunged into a river\u00a0 along the Ondo-Benin road, precisely at\u00a0 Ososa- Ijebu, in Odogbolu Local Government Area\u00a0 of Ogun State.<\/p>\n

One of the cars was retrieved with one of the passengers dead while others sustained injuries.<\/p>\n

However, there was\u00a0 anxiety, as one of the cars with uncertain number of occupants, was said to have sunk after it fell into the river and could not be evacuated from the river by\u00a0 the rescued team 24 hours after .<\/p>\n

Confirming the incident, the Traffic Compliance\u00a0 and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, Commandant in IJebu zone, Kunle Ajibade told Vanguard on phone that, the incident\u00a0 which occurred at 4:03 pm on Tuesday,\u00a0 involved two cars.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0 disclosed that it was an hectic task for the TRACE, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Fire brigade\u00a0 and\u00a0 Policemen\u00a0 from Odogbolu and Ijebu-Ode, before\u00a0 the\u00a0 three occupants of a Camry model car\u00a0 could be rescued after it plunged into the river .<\/p>\n

Ajibade, while giving the details of the incident said, \u201cI have the video\u00a0 clip of the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe two vehicles fell into the river, but, one was lucky as it stopped at the river bank, it had three male occupants, one was dead, one was\u00a0 unconscious and the third conscious, the injured\u00a0 have been taken to hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe other vehicle is still\u00a0 in the river, with\u00a0 all the occupants. We\u00a0 will\u00a0 monitor it, hoping to see the vehicle and the occupants\u00a0 floating\u00a0 in the next three days\u201d he said, while adding that,\u00a0 he is in possession of the mobile phone of one of those taken to the hospital .<\/p>\n

He further said\u00a0 that, the accident would have been averted, if the two drivers had been patient with each other, saying that, their action had led to the loss of\u00a0 innocent lives.<\/p>\n

Findings\u00a0 however showed that, the accident caused a\u00a0 traffic\u00a0 snarl on the highway as the men of the TRACE and other agencies\u00a0 were busy controlling the traffic.<\/p>\n

Ajibade, who told the Vanguard that,\u00a0 some\u00a0\u00a0 eyewitnesses told him that,\u00a0 the driver of one of the cars\u00a0 which carried\u00a0 the occupants that\u00a0 were rescued was\u00a0 driving against the traffic, which caused the accident.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cLet me tell you one thing, the simplest way to die, is to drive against the traffic. And anyone doing that is either the person is suffering from psychological problem or the person is ready to die.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy humble advice to all road users is to be patient on the road as who drive safely, gets home safely.\u201d<\/p>\n

As at the time of filing this report, the plunged car was yet to be evacuated from the river, while\u00a0 fear has gripped\u00a0 some people whose relatives\u00a0 plied the road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
