BY PETER OKUTU
ABAKALIKI—The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, South East zone, yesterday condemned the recent bomb blast in Yobe, Niger, Plateau states and other parts of the country, allegedly masterminded by Boko Haram.

In a statement by secretary general of the association, Dr. Joseph Ajujungwa, called on President Goodluck Jonathan and other security agencies to respond swiftly to the security challenges facing the nation, warning that if such was not done, Christians and other religious groups would be left with no other option than to begin reprisal attacks on the Islamic sect.

He emphasized that enough was enough to the incessant killing of innocent lives, especially Christians.

CAN said it would no longer fold its arms and watch some group of miscreants unleash mayhem on Nigerians who went to church to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

According to him, the impact and consequences of the myriads of bomb blasts in different states do not portray Nigeria in a good light, especially among the League of Nations.

“We condemn the bombing on Christmas day and called for government’s quick intervention to avoid reprisal attacks. We are not happy over the incessant bombings allegedly carried out by Boko Haram, an Islamic sect.

“CAN south east zone will not continue to watch our members die like goats every day.

“We call on government of President Good luck Jonathan to act fast else we shall defend ourselves by ourselves. The security agents should do something about this madness of Boko Haram sect. The image is not telling well of a great nation like Nigeria,” CAN said.

Similarly, Director, Directorate of Attitudinal Change, Ebonyi State, Mr. Kelechi Mbam, who regretted the death toll of Christians who died as a result of the recent Christmas Day bomb blast in the country, called on Boko Haram sect or Muslims to emulate the good virtues of Christians who had never deemed it necessary to attack them, even during their festive periods.

Mbam blamed the act of terrorism springing up in different parts of the country on the absence of good attitudinal disposition which had given rise to the present socio-political, economical and security challenges facing the nation.

Blast barbaric — Imo CAN

BY CHIDI NKWOPARA

OWERRI—The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Imo State Council, has reacted to the Christmas Day bombing, which claimed several innocent lives in Niger, Yobe and Plateau states.

Reacting to the killings allegedly perpetrated by Boko Haram, in parts of the Northern states, the state CAN Chairman, Pastor Cosmas Ilechukwu, described the incident as “most inhuman, barbaric and condemnable.

“CAN, Imo State, is utterly dismayed over the bombing of churches and intentional massacring of Christians and the continued acts of terrorism in the North.”

It was the considered opinion of CAN Imo State that the bombing of Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madala, Niger State, and other Christian churches, were carefully and deliberately planned to mar the Christmas celebration.

“One wonders how much longer the Christians in Nigeria can condone these extreme acts of sheer wickedness”, Imo CAN boss asked.

According to Pastor Ilechukwu, “if the intentional massacre of Igbos in the North was the immediate cause of the civil war, the massacre will spell doom to the existence of Nigeria as a nation”.

While insisting the “enough is enough”, Ilechukwu also prayed God to comfort those that lost their loved ones in the senseless blasts.

“We urge President Goodluck Jonathan to muster the needed courage to deal with the festering sore on our dear nation, Boko Haram.

Imo CAN similarly asked that Muslim leaders to break what it called “their conspiratorial silence and stop the massacre that has its cradle in some mosques”.

Ilechukwu equally has a word of advice for the South East governors: “They should take proactive action towards galvanizing the whole nation to stand up against this senseless massacre”.
