DIRECTOR General of Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre Mr. Michael Fawole has declared that President Goodluck Jonathan cannot solve the current insecurity in the country alone, noting that if the problem must be addressed, every Nigerian must be involved.<\/p>\n

He also stated that it would be wrong for people to stand aloof and watch things go wrong, saying that government cannot be accused of incompetence in such situation.<\/p>\n

Fawole said this in Lagos at the 2011 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Workshop organised by the Centre for Christian and Muslim Youths from the 17 Southern States of the country.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the theme: \u2018Religious Tolerance and Peaceful Co-existence as Panacea for National Development\u2019 he noted that religious crisis has remained a primary hindrance to Nigeria\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cWhile it is true that government has it as a primary duty to provide security for lives and property of its citizenry, this task cannot be accomplished unless every one of us plays our own parts. We must therefore see ourselves as leaders in our own rights and assume our own individual responsibilities towards securing the society from violence and other actions that in isolation or when combined can jeopardise the unity of our nation,\u201d<\/p>\n

He further urged Nigerian leaders to put the interest of the people first in all their dealings, saying that the President is not a magician.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me also remind all of us, especially the youths that Nigeria is our collective heritage and the only nation where Almighty God in his infinite wisdom and omniscience has placed us to live as brothers and sisters. I therefore urge all Nigerians to refrain from words and actions that encourage divisiveness and disaffection among the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore importantly, I enjoin all participants to be liberal- minded for the period of this programme as you discuss sensitive issues of religion and nationalism. Let us all strive to listen and understand one another as well as ask questions that you know would help achieve the objective of this programme and ultimately engender peaceful co-existence for all Nigerians,\u201d Fawole noted.<\/p>\n

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs Dr. Mrs Precious Gbeneol who was represented by the Desk Officer in the MDGs Office on Youth Matters Mrs Lola Olaopa commended Leadership Centre for engaging the youths on dialogue on religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence, describing the theme of the programme as very timely in view of the security challenges facing the country this time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
