Susanne Hoff, the alleged mastermind behind a conspiracy to kill her husband, was arrested for fraud on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n
She was arrested at the Windhoek Central Hospital where she has been treated for dehydration for almost two weeks.<\/p>\n
On this latest charge, she made a brief first appearance before Magistrate Duard Kesslau yesterday.<\/p>\n
Hoff joined a friend, Ludmilla von Korff, as a second accused in the fraud case.<\/p>\n
Von Korff, who was arrested in October and was out on bail of N$1 000, has in the meantime allegedly fled the country.<\/p>\n
A warrant of arrest has been issued for her.<\/p>\n
During her bail application on the conspiracy to murder charge on Monday, Hoff claimed that Von Korff had to leave the country on short notice because one of her parents was ill.<\/p>\n
The two women allegedly used a credit card of Von Korff’s husband to buy petrol.<\/p>\n
Hoff has to make a second court appearance on this charge on January 30 next year.<\/p>\n
During the continuation of the bail application, it was claimed yesterday that once dead, Egbert Hoff was allegedly to be buried under a heap of old tyres next to a dam on the family farm.<\/p>\n
Wilbard Malima claimed that he was introduced to Susanne Hoff by a friend of his.<\/p>\n
He yesterday testified that Hoff first told him that she was looking for someone to injure her husband and later said she wanted him dead. This request scared him, he claimed.<\/p>\n
He alleged that she paid him N$1 000 upfront “not to lose faith” and later paid him N$12 000. According to him, he used this money for his own purposes.<\/p>\n
After allegedly feeling bad about the woman’s request, Malima and a friend, Jekonia Ipinge, approached the Police.<\/p>\n
A trap was set for Susanne Hoff and she was arrested.<\/p>\n
Malima “sees black” and Susanne Hoff “sees white”, Hoff’s lawyer Esi Chase said yesterday about the differences in their testimonies.<\/p>\n
According to Hoff, she got in touch with Malima to help her with debt collection next year.<\/p>\n
After he allegedly phoned her several times to ask for a job this year already because he needed money, she asked him to help her establish whether it was true that Egbert Hoff was selling off the couple’s stud horses.<\/p>\n
Malima yesterday said he read about the alleged horse transaction in the newspapers. Referring to his potential job as a debt collector, he said he only became aware of that in court yesterday.<\/p>\n
Chase said Malima had concocted the conspiracy story to avoid being charged with theft. According to the lawyer, Malima should be arrested for stealing the N$13 000 from Hoff, which he admits to have used for his own purposes.<\/p>\n
If he was a man of good morals, he would either not have accepted the money from Hoff or would have given it to the Police.<\/p>\n
The formal bail application before Magistrate Justine Asino continues today.<\/p>\n
