ANALYSIS
By Stefan Coerts | Dutch Football Editor

With the January transfer window rapidly approaching, Goal.com takes a look at the players who could possibly leave the Eredivisie in the upcoming few weeks.

In January 2011, stars such as Luis Suarez, Ibrahim Afellay and Urby Emanuelson said farewell to the Dutch top flight, and there are once again several players who have caught the attention of clubs from bigger leagues.

Although most Eredivisie sides will be determined to hold on to their stars, a big money offer from abroad could prove to be too tempting to resist and there could definitely be some movement on the transfer market in January 2012.

WILFRIED BONY| Vitesse, Striker, 23

The Cote d’Ivoire international joined Vitesse from Sparta Prague in January 2011 and has since developed into a key player at the Gelredome. He has so far scored 12 goals in 23 Eredivisie appearances and the powerful forward has shown that he might be ready for the next step in his career with some impressive displays.

Bony has been linked with big clubs such as Bayern Munich and Chelsea, while Russian giants CSKA Moscow are also believed to be interested in signing the striker. Vitesse have stressed that they have no intention of cashing in on the attacker, although they have already signed two potential replacements in Jonathan Reis and Mike Havenaar, suggesting that they could sell their prized asset after all if the price is right.

BRETT HOLMAN | AZ, Winger, 27

The Australian attacker has been living in the Netherlands ever since joining Excelsior in 2002, and is currently in his fourth season at AZ. Holman has an expiring contract at the Eredivisie table-toppers though, and recently stated that he needs a new challenge, and has set his sights on a move abroad.

A number of clubs from England and Germany are believed to be interested in the versatile attacker, with Borussia Monchengladbach allegedly sitting in pole position to sign Holman. Nevertheless, AZ won’t let go of the former NEC star just like that as they’re fighting for the league title and will be keen to keep their current squad together.

SIMON POULSEN | AZ, Left-back, 27

Poulsen has developed into one of the best left-backs around in the Eredivisie this season, and his good performances have understandably earned him the interest of several foreign clubs. The Denmark international is being monitored by Aston Villa as well as Borussia Monchengladbach and a winter transfer seems a realistic option. The fact that he has an expiring contract in Alkmaar and has no intention of signing a new deal only makes him a more interesting transfer target.

However, as is the case with Holman, AZ appear to be keen to hold on to Poulsen in order to keep their title ambitions alive. Therefore, a significant offer will be needed to lure him away from Alkmaar, or AZ will prefer to keep him at the AFAS Stadium until the end of the campaign.

DUSAN TADIC | Groningen, Winger, 23

Tadic snubbed clubs such as CSKA Moscow and Olympique de Marseille in order to join Groningen in the summer of 2010 as he felt he wasn’t ready for a big club just yet. The Serbian winger won’t regret his decision moving to the Euroborg as he has since developed into one of the stars of the Eredivisie, and there is once again plenty of interest in the 23-year-old.

The winger has apparently caught the attention of German giants Bayern Munich as well as several more Bundesliga sides, while Dutch side Twente are keen to lure him to Enschede. Tadic won’t be available on the cheap, though, as he has a contract until 2013, with an option to extend his stay at Groningen for two more years.

JAN VERTONGHEN | Ajax, Centre-back, 24

Ajax reportedly received last-ditch offers from Inter and Valencia in the final days of the summer transfer window, but turned down the bids as there was not enough time for them to sign a replacement. This winter, the reigning Dutch champions seem to be better prepared for an eventual departure of their skipper as they have already publicly stated their interest in Inter defender Cristian Chivu.

Vertonghen said earlier in 2011 that he would not leave the club halfway through the season, but Ajax’s unexpected Champions League group stage elimination could change matters. The Belgium international has been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle United, but Tottenham Hotspur seem to be sitting in pole position to secure the defender’s services.
