\nA team of potential investors from the India-based Overseas Infrastructure Alliance, are currently in the country with an objective to explore the vast potential sectors of the Gambian economy. The team, led by the chairman of the company and accompanied to the country by the Gambia’s High Commissioner to the Republic of India, Dembo Badjie, Wednesday afternoon met the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh for a closed-door discussion in Kanilai.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the press corps in an interview shortly after their audience with President Jammeh, the head of the group, Ambassador VB Soni said his company is interested in coming in a big way investment in the country. The Overseas Infrastructure Alliance chief, who said their strength is in infrastructure, disclosed that they would be interested in energy, transportation, agro-based industries, amongst others. “Now we have to sit down with the government agencies and particularly the designated people who will be talking to us, to find out what other priorities are, because we have to start with one particular project and once that is identified, it will become a pilot project. Once we are done with that project and establish our credentials, then we will move on to other sectors,” VB Soni asserted.<\/p>\n
He disclosed: “Our intention of coming to the Gambia is not just for one particular project – we are not here for commodity export but we are here for long term purpose. We here to increase the capacity of the country; to develop skills of the people and contribute to what is called transfer of appropriate technology,” he concluded.<\/p>\n
