The chancellor of the BIU, Archbishop Margaret Benson-Idahosa while conferring the awards, said the vision of the university remained to raise leaders who are complete in their spirit, mind and body and added that “these leaders will bring positive change to bear on the various professions with the mindset of Christ and their intellectual capacity.”

According to her, the university was educating future leaders who would provide entrepreneurial skills to society, and not those who would become liability, declaring that “success is a journey and not a destination.”

Earlier in his address, the acting vice chancellor of the institution, Professor MacDonald Idu said the fresh graduates from the university had been groomed and certified fit to take Nigeria to the next level through their future contributions to the Nigerian project.

Professor Idu said the university had recorded some major achievements recently which included the accreditation of its Postgraduate School by the National Universities Commission (NUC) with the approval to run some programmes. The vice chancellor also said the university has received approval from the NUC for three new programmes at the undergraduate level, which he said would make the institution meet what he called “some of Nigerian societal needs”.

He said as part of the university’s community service, it had completed the construction of the access road to 1st Ugbor through self-effort, adding that at present, the university was partnering with the state government to do the road, leading directly to the campus.
