Communication team member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kojo Twum Boafo has said the ruling party would not take any responsibility for the missing cocaine exhibit that was kept in the custody of the court.<\/p>\n
According to Twum Boafo, government acted very swiftly to unravel the mystery behind the cocaine-turned- washing soda by instituting committees to investigate the issue – something he said never happened under the opposition New Patriotic Party regime.<\/p>\n
The NPP has expressed shock that 1,020 grams of cocaine could go missing under the watch of an \u2018anti-narcotic party\u2019 like the NDC, after the ruling party had labeled it (NPP) and its members as a bunch of cocaine barons.<\/p>\n
The NPP argued that the issue is an indictment on the NDC government which prides itself of halting the narcotic trade in just three years in office.<\/p>\n
The largest opposition party feels vindicated and maintains that attempts by the NDC to continue to label the NPP as Narcotic Peddlers Party<\/strong> has fallen flat in their face after a cocaine exhibit has now turned sodium bicarbonate.<\/p>\n But speaking on Asempa FM\u2019s Ekosii Sen<\/em> programme Thursday, Kojo Twum Boafo opined that the NPP has no moral right to question the ruling party on drug related issues.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen it comes to drugs, cocaine smuggling, heroine smuggling, wee smoking, PCP injection, angle dust, it is their baby. The NDC will not take any responsibility for the missing cocaine saga\u201d.<\/p>\n He said based on the track record of the Mills-led administration in the fight against narcotic trade, the NPP does not come anywhere near tehri efforts.<\/p>\n Kojo Twum Boafo cited the 77 parcels of cocaine retrieved from the MV Benjamin vessel which later turned into cassava powder (konkonte)in 2007as an attestation of the NPP\u2018s endorsement the narcotic trade in the country.<\/p>\n He noted that the NDC would not repeat the mistakes of the NPP in 2008 adding that the Mills-led administration would get to the bottom of the issue and punish the culprits culpable of the offence.<\/p>\n The Ghana Free Zones boss, however, expressed shock at the disappearance of the sealed cocaine exhibit in court custody.<\/p>\n The NDC youth activist stated that the onus lies in the court which had the certified cocaine exhibit before it reportedly turned into sodium bicarbonate to prove their innocence.<\/p>\n He also called on civil society groups and all well-meaning Ghanaians to join government in the fight against the drug menace creeping slowly into our social fabric.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, a public enquiry into the case is underway in Accra.
