Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, and Chairman of the House of Representatives Dakuku \u00a0Peterside, \u00a0yesterday expressed concern over the N921.91billion allocated for security in the 2012 budget proposal by President Goodluck Jonathan.<\/span><\/p>\n Abatemi-Usman \u00a0stressed the need to ensure improved budget implementation for 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n The Senator representing Kogi Central on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noted in a statement by his media aide, Michael Jegede, in Abuja that poor budget implementation was responsible for the economic backwardness of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n Abatemi-Usman : \u201cThe budget presented by President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday, where almost 25 per cent of the budget is dedicated to the security sector raises question on the surface. It is a bit worrisome. This is clearly against the trend of prior budgets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cTwenty five per cent of total budgetary sum going to just security! Well, we are not a rubber stamp assembly for the executive. We will carry and hold our duties and responsibilities sacred.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Peterside \u00a0said \u00a0the President must convince Nigerians on the need to allocate such funds to security before the legislators would give it their support.<\/span><\/p>\n
