LAGOS\u2014The State Security Service,SSS,\u00a0 yesterday, arrested six persons who were behind the theft of Direct\u00a0 Data Capturing,DDC, machines, and\u00a0 other sensitive materials\u00a0 used by the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC,\u00a0 in\u00a0 last\u00a0 April\u2019s\u00a0 general elections in\u00a0 Lagos State.<\/p>\n

SSS also said all the stolen materials were recovered from the popular Computer Village Market, in the Ikeja area of the state.<\/p>\n

Speaking with newsmen at its\u00a0 Shangisha office, SSS Director, Lagos State, Mr. Achu Ben Olaye, said\u00a0 the service swung into action after a\u00a0 complaint was made by INEC\u00a0 that\u00a0 some DDC machines,\u00a0 Internal\u00a0 Hard Disks Drives, HDD, and computer batteries were stolen from its central store in Lagos State.<\/p>\n

He said:\u201cA full-scale investigation by this service into the matter was established and it\u00a0 led to the arrest of a Lagos-based syndicate made up of an INEC staff and his collaborators, who have been stealing and trading in the missing items since May, 2011.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Mr.\u00a0\u00a0 Olaye also, identified members of the syndicate as Rafiu Atanda Osunware (INEC staff), Busayo Anyankolu, Bayo Akomolafe and Okoro Ifeanyichukwu,\u00a0 Chukwunwike Onwurah and Ugwaka Emeka.<\/p>\n

Giving details on how the suspects were arrested and the items recovered,\u00a0\u00a0 Mr. Olaye said,\u00a0\u00a0 \u201c Osunware who is a staff and a store keeper of INEC in Ado-Odo\/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, have been the act of stealing sensitive INEC materials which are yet to be\u00a0 declassified by the federal government, since\u00a0 May, 2011, and he sold them\u00a0 to Akomolafe,\u00a0 a floor boy at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos , at the rate of three thousand naira per units.<\/p>\n

Akomolafe, then source for other buyers of the materials, whose names are mention above.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 The SSS boss also said all the suspects have made valuable confessions and will soon be charged to court.<\/p>\n

He noted that the Service will enjoyed Nigerians to remain vigilant and more security conscious in assisting the service put an end to activities of unscrupulous and unpatriotic elements.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cWe want to therefore enjoin Nigerians to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies as we partner in the business of securing our nation and its assets.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
