{"id":11956,"date":"2011-12-12T23:50:27","date_gmt":"2011-12-12T23:50:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/12\/roads-ogun-pays-n300m-compensation\/"},"modified":"2011-12-12T23:50:27","modified_gmt":"2011-12-12T23:50:27","slug":"roads-ogun-pays-n300m-compensation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/12\/12\/roads-ogun-pays-n300m-compensation\/","title":{"rendered":"Roads: Ogun pays N300m compensation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"108\">\n<p>By DAUD OLATUNJI<br \/>ABEOKUTA\u2014The Ogun State Government\u00a0 has commenced\u00a0 payment of\u00a0 over\u00a0 N300 million as\u00a0 compensation to\u00a0 about 257 people, whose property were affected\u00a0 in the\u00a0 2.4km road expansion along Ibara-Sokori-Totoro, Abeokuta, embarked upon to beautify the state capital.<\/p>\n<p>While handling\u00a0 the cheques\u00a0 to some of the\u00a0 victims yesterday\u00a0 at the\u00a0 premises\u00a0 of Bureau of\u00a0 Land in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta,\u00a0 Special Adviser to the governor on Lands and Survey, Ronke Sokefun, disclosed that, the least money paid to the victims was N50,000 while saying that, some were paid a sum of N8 million, depending on the valuation undertaken by the\u00a0 independent estate valuers contracted.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that,\u00a0 not less than 200 structures were demolished by the state government to pave way for the expansion of a-six lane road, along Ibara-Sokori\u2013Totoro in Abeokuta, leading to the loss of\u00a0 property by some\u00a0 landlords and shop owners in the area.<\/p>\n<p>In a bid to placate them, the government had offered each of them, a sum of N50,000, which it\u00a0 called relocation fees, before it began the final payment of compensation to the victims yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0 Sokefun, who also doubled as Director-General, Bureau of\u00a0 land and survey, the State government\u00a0 did not intend\u00a0 to hurt any citizen in the state, but, desires\u00a0 to rebuild the State to the delight of investors.<\/p>\n<p>She said \u201c the payment\u00a0 is based on the valuation undertaken by season estate valuers, we had a consortium. We\u00a0 didn\u2019t want to be the Judge and the jury, that is why, we decided to bring external people to do the\u00a0 evaluation, and we decided to be bond by their findings and that is what we are doing today\u201dshe said<\/p>\n<p>Commenting further, Sokefun said\u00a0 a\u00a0\u00a0 lot of the\u00a0 people affected added\u00a0 sentimental\u00a0 attachment to most of their\u00a0 properties located there, because that was their family houses and that was where they<\/p>\n<p>grew up, while saying, that, even the family\u00a0 houses\u00a0 of the governor were\u00a0 affected.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the\u00a0 gesture of the government shortly after he collected N2 million for\u00a0 the loss of his two-storey building, Oyeleye Alade, begged the government to increase the fund, claiming that, the building was worth N6 million before it was demolished.<\/p>\n<p>Also commenting on the payment of compensation given to his family over the loss of their building along the road, Olatunji Akanbi Ogunbayo whose Bungalow house\u00a0 was demolished, thanked the government for the gesture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Comments are moderated.
