There is turmoil in the Convention People’s Party with party leaders engaged in accusations and counter accusations.

Party General Secretary, Ivor Greenstreet fingered the CPP’s 2008 presidential candidate for machinations designed to cause disaffection in the party.

Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, according to Mr Greenstreet, is responsible for agitations in the CPP by some groups who want the party to organize presidential primaries next month.

The CPP General Secretary told Joy FM the groups are being “manipulated and the process is being orchestrated by one individual by the name of Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom and we will face him squarely.”

“We know the machinations and activities that he’s been engaged in throughout the country and it is incredible to believe that this one individual believes that by his actions he has any chance of unifying this party. I do not understand why he continues along this line of action which clearly cannot auger well for this party as a whole,” he added.

Some regional officers of the CPP say they are holding a meeting to discuss the failure of the party’s leadership to hold presidential primaries and other matters.

CPP Chairman Samia Yaba Nkrumah has hinted the party will hold its presidential primaries in March next year but the groups contend that will be in violation of Article 78 Clause 3 of the party’s constitution which requires that a presidential candidate is elected 24 months before elections.

Mr Greenstreet said while the national officers of the CPP were not against the meeting called by one-third of the CPP’s national executive committee, he insisted that a meeting could not be held without the national officers.

“They need to present their request [for a meeting] to the party, the party will constitute the meeting and the party will give notice to all the other two-thirds of National Executive Council Committee members …who are also entitled to be present and deliberate on party matters and the forward march of the party,” he stated.

According to him, there were overwhelming evidence of Dr Nduom, using some members of the party to circumvent the process.

But a spokesperson for Dr Nduom, Mr Kofi Asamoah Siaw said it was an insult to the intelligence of the NEC members for Mr Greenstreet to suggest that they were susceptible to manipulation.

He said Mr Grenstreet should discipline himself and attend to important matters affecting the CPP.

Mr Siaw said media reports that the party’s Chairperson, Samia Nkrumah had been meeting secretly with leaders of the governing National Democratic Congress as part of efforts to enter into a pact with the NDC in order that the CPP will not elect a presidential candidate to contest the 2012 elections were matters requiring the General Secretary’s attention.

He said the CPP General Secretary should address such damning reports instead of leveling spurious allegations against Dr Nduom.
