A group of experts have discovered some unusual trends after analysing the performances of Premier League players and the colour of their boots

The findings have shown that players wearing white boots have been more prolific in front of goal, whereas anyone donning grey footwear would be likely to stay injury free.

Of the ten hat-tricks scored in the Premier League this year, five have come from a white booted player with Yakubu being the latest example after his four goals against Swansea. Games played up to 5th December 2011 saw 178 goals scored by 78 different players in white boots.

Players looking to avoid injury would do well to pick up a pair of grey boots judging by the results of the study. Of the 75 Premier League players currently suffering from foot, ankle or leg complaints, just one player sustained the injury while wearing grey footwear.

Website www.footy-boots.com studied 139 matches and 453 players to arrive at their conclusions which are geared towards The Football Boot Awards 2011 – the sixth iteration.

They also found the traditional black boot to be less prolific, with just 70 goals scored by 46 players and the red football boot to show the most ill-discipline.

Despite a small pool of players sporting red footwear, Youssouf Mulumbu and fellow midfield bruisers have received a dozen yellow cards and one red.

At the other end of the scale players such as Sergio Aguero and Matthew Etherington are less likely to receive a caution whilst clad in their neon green boots.

The Football Boots Awards have multiple categories including “Best Looking Boot of the Year” and “Most Innovative Boot of the Year”.
