This weekend Manchester United look to bounce back at Old Trafford against Wolves; Liverpool entertain newly-promoted QPR; and Andre Villas-Boas’ Chelsea attempt to beat Manchester City when the table-toppers travel to Stamford Bridge on Monday.
Goal.com correspondent Greg Stobart was on hand to answer your questions in our weekly Twitter Q&A ahead of another big weekend of Premier League action.
Below are the highlights of the Q&A – click here to read the full article.
Can Chelsea seriously challenge for the title if they beat Manchester City on Monday? – Ezinwa Emelumba
Greg Stobart: “I think Chelsea are some way from being considered serious title challengers, even though a win over Manchester City would leave them seven points behind the Premier League leaders. You will have to ask me in two months’ time whether first place is a possibility. I do expect the Blues to finish in the top four if they continue to play a deeper defensive line (as they have in the last two games) and Didier Drogba fires.”
Will Sir Alex Ferguson field quality starting line-ups in the Europa League, after Manchester United crashed out at the Champions League group stage? – Wenyimo
GS: “I very much doubt Sir Alex Ferguson will field his first-choice starting XI in the Europa League. After all, he fielded League Cup teams in the Champions League group stage, which he will have considered far more important than the European booby prize. The cycle of Thursday and Sunday football means Sir Alex will put all his energy into the Premier League and use the Europa League to rotate his squad and keep players fit for the weekend – at least until the semi-final stage.”
Could Liverpool do with some squad strengthening if they want to challenge for a top-four place? – Rayhaan Ganie
GS: “With Lucas ruled out until the end of the season, I would be gobsmacked if Liverpool don’t make a move for a defensive midfielder in January. The Reds need someone like Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote to gain control of the midfield while their lack of goals – particularly at Anfield – has made clear the need for a genuine goalscorer in the penalty box. For all Luis Suarez’s brilliance, he is not a natural in front of goal and Liverpool have dropped points by missing too many chances.”
