The Ghana Police Service is hunting for the killers of Tuesday’s attack in Gushegu in which 13 people including two children lost their lives
The Northern regional Police Commander ACP George Tuffuor confirmed that at least 13 dead bodies have been recovered so far in yesterday’s violent attack on some Fulanis in Zamashegu, in the Gushegu district of the Northern region.
Several others are also reported to be on admission at the Tamale General Hospital receiving medical treatment.
ACP Tuffuor said the nomads were attacked by persons believed to be Konkombas. He said the assailants burnt down the homes of the nomads.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast show on Thursday, ACP Tuffuor said a number of Fulanis have been assembled at the regional police head office for protection.
ACP Tuffuor rejected reports that the attack was reprisal but said investigations are still ongoing to arrest the culprits.
He added that the Police with the help of the military will do everything possible to track down the assailants and bring them to book.
Meanwhile, the chief of Fulanis in Ghana, Alhaji Bingle said information he has obtained from Gushegu indicates that at least 20 nomads lost their lives contrary to police confirmation of 13.
Alhaji Bingle is also surprised at the unprovoked attack and called for an immediate action.
