THE Youth Development Through Football (YDF) and the Football for Hope Centre will hold a World AIDS Day football tournament on Thursday at the Football for Hope Centre to commemorate World AIDS Day.
Mixed-gender teams of boys and girls between 12 and 19 years old will play a five-a-side format. The format was deliberately chosen to emphasise the universal World AIDS Day theme, ‘Getting to Zero’.
YDF and the Football for Hope Centre want to use the tolerance and non-discrimination aspects of the ‘Getting to Zero’ theme to educate and encourage young soccer players to be the torch-bearers against discrimination against people living with HIV-AIDS, as well as for the complete elimination of HIV infections.
“Through the ‘Zero New HIV Infections’ and ‘Zero Discrimination’ focus areas, we are playing our small but hopefully significant role in helping our Government and the United Nations to give the fight against HIV the attention it deserves” they say.
The Football for Hope Centre is located in the Katutura Youth Sports Complex. The tournament starts at 14h00 on December 1 to allow for official World AIDS Day events taking place in the morning.
