    Love Adventure

JOE and I grew up a block away from each other in Lagos Island. We were best friends in elementary school, and we played together all the time. Almost every morning in primary school, he would call to propose to me. He would chase me around my back yard yelling that he loved me all the time. For six years, we were almost inseparable.

But during our first year of secondary school, both of our families moved away, and we lost touch. Joe saw my full name (which he had always known) and a picture of me on the Internet once and sent me a mail. But the Internet was our only connection for many years. We both grew up and went to universities in different regions of Nigeria. I went to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, while he went to the University of Ilorin.

After my graduation, I prayed to God to let me serve in the South West so that, if possible, I could get to see Joe again. I was confident and hopeful that Fortune must favor me.

Indeed, it happened that I got posted to Lagos for my NYSC and one night, I was checking my mailbox when I saw a new mail from Joe, which I hadn’t noticed for two weeks! I quickly opened it and read it. In the email, Joe said that he was now at Akure in Ondo State. I replied him immediately, saying that I was already in Lagos for my NYSC.

That night I deleted almost all the messages in my yahoo inbox, except Joe’s emails because there were too many useless and spam emails in my in-box and they were preventing me from noticing Joe’s emails. I didn’t want anything to block or prevent me from seeing Joe’s emails.

The next morning, Joe saw my email and replied. That very week, he rushed to Lagos from Akure to see me. And when it was time for him to leave, I told him not to go. So, he had to stay with me for one more week. Like I said, fortune must favor me. We decided to take our relationship to the next level, and a year later, we wedded. It took us 20 years to lose contact and come back to each other. But when he brought me back to where he first proposed as a four year-old, I said yes to my first, best friend.
