AT LEAST 16 persons were feared dead in another fatal accident that occurred on Saturday night on the Techiman-Kintampo Highway.
The dead were nine males and seven females on-board an Ouagadougou-Kumasi-bound OA bus with registration number AS 9141 Y, which had a head-on collision with an articulated truck heading from Kumasi to Tamale.
Reports say more than 20 other passengers suffered life-threatening injuries.
They were rushed to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital and those in critical conditions sent to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital and the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani.
Eyewitnesses told DAILY GUIDE that the accident happened at Mante, a village nestling Jema and Kintampo around 10:30pm on Saturday when the articulated truck, loaded with iron rods, veered off its lane when dodging potholes and ran into the OA bus.
According to reports, the OA driver did not see the articulated truck early enough because the area where the incident occurred is a sharp curve. Both drivers survived the fatal accident.
Medics say there could be more deaths following the severity of the injuries.
However, the Medical Superintendent of the Kintampo Municipal Hospital, Dr Damien Punguyire, told DAILY GUIDE that doctors at the facility were working despite the nationwide strike announced by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and that they would do their best to save the lives of the injured persons.
