A woman died and 24 people were injured when two minibus taxis collided head-on in Midrand on Friday, paramedics said.
“She was still trapped in the front seat of one of the taxis. She was declared dead at the scene,” said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.
She said a two-year-old boy was in a critical condition and was airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. A man and a woman suffered head injuries and broken bones.
The other 21 people, including a three-year-old boy, suffered minor to moderate injuries.
They were all treated at the scene and taken to Tembisa Hospital by ambulance.
Jackson said it was not known what caused the accident on the downhill on Modderfontein Road (M38) in Rabie Ridge. – Sapa
