    The Muslim Women Association of the sister Republic of Guinea Bissau Thursday called on the vice president and minister of Women’s Affairs, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy at State House. The Bissau Muslim women were at the vice president’s office to thank the Gambian leader for his proactive stance towards the promotion of the Islamic religion in the country.

    Speaking at the ceremony, Mariama Jatta, the president of the association hailed the Gambian leader’s effort towards the promotion of women and Islam among other development initiatives in the country. She equally thanked him for the previous donation of a handsome amount of money to the association. Imam Sheriff Badjan, the vice president of the Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) expressed similar sentiments. He challenged the members of the association as Muslims to be proactive and steadfast in promoting Islamic norms and values in their country.

    For her part, VP Njie-Saidy hailed the association for the move, reminding them that the Gambian leader has done a lot for the people of Bissau, from their transition period to date. She stressed that the Islamic religion goes with numerous challenges and called on them to be steadfast in surmounting those challenges. Dr Njie-Saidy equally used the forum to commend the association for their efforts in mobilising other faiths into the Islamic religion.

    Lamin Nyabally, the permanent secretary at the Office of the Vice President, who also spoke at the ceremony commended the association for the move. Like other speakers, PS Nyabally equally challenged them to be committed to the promotion of Islamic norms and values especially in their country.
