Windhoek — The Brave Warriors will start their 2014 Brazil World Cup dream against Djibouti in the preliminary knockout matches set to kick off in November this year.
The draw, conducted by Brazil’s current and former football greats and witnessed by the NFA’s Tim Isaacs in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, has Namibia playing their first leg in Djibouti, and their second leg in Windhoek between November 11 and 15.
There will be 12 knockout matches at this stage, with the 12 winners joining the remaining 28 CAF entrants in the second round, which will consist of 10 groups of four countries.
If Namibia advances, they will join Malawi and Nigeria in Group F, with either the Seychelles or Kenya also set to join this group.
The winners of each group – matches held between June 2012 and September 2013 – will advance to a third round of five two-legged knockout ties, while the five winners of these ties – held in October and November 2013 – will advance to the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.
A record 203 teams will be competing in the preliminary competition for Brazil 2014 – a number that will be whittled down to the 31 who will join the hosts for the 20th FIFA World Cup finals, which kick off on Thursday June 12, 2014.
