The Spain Under-20 star completed his move from Barcelona to Chelsea for a fee of €5 million (£4.3m) on Thursday and is looking forward to plying his trade in the Premier League.
“Obviously, it hurts a lot to leave Barcelona. This has always been my club. However, opportunities like Chelsea only come along once. You have to make a decision and go for it,” Romeu said to Marca.
“Chelsea are a great option for me. Both clubs had reached an agreement, so it was up to me to make a final decision. I am looking forward to the challenge at Chelsea. Negotiations went pretty smoothly and I’m glad that the deal was closed this fast.”
The 19-year-old midfielder is a product of the famed Barcelona youth academy and made his official debut in May 2011. He has signed a contract until 2015 with the Stamford Bridge outfit.
