Motorcyclist bags 3 weeks for cheating

An Abuja Magistrate Court last Friday sentenced a 25-year-old Okada rider to three weeks imprisonment for cheating one Simon Julius.

Lawali Mohammed was convicted for criminal breach of trust and cheating, offences contrary to Section 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

Prosecutor Umar Mohammed informed the court that on July 26, the complainant reported to the police that sometime in March, he entrusted his black Jincheng motorcycle to the accused for a weekly return of N3,000.

He said the accused breached the agreement earlier reached and dishonestly converted N17,500 to his personal use.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for forgiveness, while the prosecutor asked for a summary trial.

Senior magistrate Celestine Odo sentenced the accused to three weeks imprisonment or to pay N2,000 as fine. He also ruled that the accused should pay N15,000 to the complainant as compensation.
