Manchester City’s latest big signing Sergio Aguero has revealed his desire to move to Roberto Mancini’s side and play in the Premier League was so great he told his agents to do everything to secure the transfer.

The Argentine joined City on Thursday for a fee of around £35 million after much speculation on the striker’s future.

Many top teams were alerted in May when Aguero made the decision to leave his former club Atletico Madrid in the summer, with local rivals Real Madrid particularly interested in the striker’s services.

However, after the Argentine learned of City’s venture to sign him and speaking to compatriot Pablo Zabaleta, Aguero insist his representatives go out their way to make the transfer possible.

“I asked my agents to do everything they could because this was a good club and I’d always wanted to play in the Premier League,” said the striker after completing his switch to the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.

“It’s a good club and it felt right.”

Aguero was brought in with the intention to replace the unhappy Carlos Tevez, who wishes to be closer to his wife and two daughters, but the new boy at Eastlands doesn’t believe he will have such family problems.

“They are living with me now,” he said, referring to his wife Giannina, the daughter of Argentine legend Diego Maradona, and their son Benjamin.

“There will be friends and family coming to see me and I was in the same team as Maxi (Rodriguez, the Liverpool midfielder) and I get on well with him, we are good friends.

“I am sure I am going to enjoy myself here and life will be fine.”

The team the 23-year-old leaves behind have not been best pleased with the attitude the striker has shown towards them during his transition between clubs, but Atletico president Enrique Cerezo concedes it is time for the La Liga side to move on.

Cerezo told Spanish radio station COPE: “It’s an issue that is finished and closed.

“He had a (buy-out) clause in his contract and City have paid it, but I still wonder what we have done for him to treat us in this way.

“The truth is that things could have been done better, but the reality is that we have to focus on the season because we no longer have Aguero.”
