Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers is thrilled that the club are on the verge of signing striker Leroy Lita from Middlesbrough.

The Swans have had an offer of £1.75 million accepted for the 26-year-old and are now discussing personal terms, which would see the former Reading men reunited in Swansea.

“Leroy is a proven goalscorer,” Rodgers told the club’s official website. “He is also someone who I have known for a while and it would be a fantastic deal for this club.”

“Our supporters would love him because he is a player that is loved by the supporters of every team he plays for.

“So we will see what happens. Hopefully we’ll have some good news about that pretty soon.”

The former Reading manager says the deal is an indication of how all his business this summer is likely to be conducted.

“There is no point in me getting in a foreign player that would demand an astronomical fee and wages,” he reasoned.

“The most important thing is having players who are hungry to prove they are good enough for the Premier League.

“We have that in our squad already and, if we can just add a few more, we will have a really exciting group.”
