Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is set to work his players hard as they prepare for the new season.

The squad have just returned from a three-game tour of America which was packed full of incidents.

Pardew said in The Sun: “We really saw the good, the bad and the ugly on tour.

“But I’m pushing the players a bit harder than usual to make sure they are top of their game.”

Joey Barton and Yohan Cabaye were unable to travel with the squad after having visas rejected, Barton’s case was connected to his previous criminal convictions.

Hatem Ben Arfa suffered more injury woe and is now a doubt for the start of the season.

Jose Enrique also got into trouble after slamming the club about the lack of investment in the squad via Twitter.

Enrique was linked with a move away from St. James’ park before the tour but after his actions and the subsequent fine he received, it seems that the Spaniard will soon be moving on with Liverpool among the clubs reportedly interested.

The Magpies won, drew and lost a single game on their three game tour and will now be looking to the start of the season when they face Arsenal on the opening day of the season.
