Beckham played in a midfield trio behind Thierry Henry, who was reserved for special praise from the former England captain.
Following the game, Beckham told reporters: “I enjoyed it tonight. With the three in midfield I was able to get on the ball and play a lot of balls through to Thierry Henry.
“It worked out well. I enjoyed the night. It was a great night for soccer in this country.
“I think that we were passing the ball around well. Our movement was good. We were finding good spaces where we could put pressure on their back line. The runs of Thierry and Brad Davis getting into certain areas was good. We created chances through that.
“Every player that was out there deserves to be here. It’s an honour playing for the All-Stars. Always has been.
“Those players deserve to be out there. It was a great night for them, a great night for their families and a great night for the fans here as well.”
Speaking about his role as captain, Beckham seemed surprised to be selected over Henry as the match was being played at the Frenchman’s home stadium, Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.
Beckham continued: “I was surprised as anyone to get the armband, because I expected Thierry to have it, it being his home, it being his team, his fans.
“I think Thierry might have sneakily put it in my locker just before the game. I did him thank him for it, but he didn’t admit to it. But I know what Thierry’s like, so thanks to him but it was a surprise.”
