Wolves captain Karl Henry hopes Mick McCarthy manages to secure a new midfielder in the hope of increasing competition for places and strengthen the squad for the new season.
Wolves are reportedly in the race to sign Thomas Hitzlsperger after his departure from West Ham United. While a potential loan move for Liverpool youngster Jay Spearing has also been speculated.
But Henry feels competition will enhance his own game and welcomes arrivals this summer.
Henry told the Express and Star: “I know the gaffer is working hard to bring in a couple of names and I hope another midfielder comes in who makes me up my game.
“If we sign a midfielder who does what I do then hopefully I raise my game and try to keep them out of the team.”
McCarthy has already secured the signings of Jamie O’Hara and Roger Johnson and has Stephen Hunt and Michael Kightly fit again after injury-ravaged seasons.
