Namibia/Ghana: Nation’s Brave Warriors B Win in Ghana

The Brave Warriors second-string side won both matches of their West African tour this past week.

According to team manager Jakes Amaning, the team has settled in well at the Lizzy Sport Complex in Accra since their arrival last weekend. They played against Serve FC, a first-division side, whom they beat 3-0 with goals from the prolific Ramblers striker Sydney Urikhob, Rundu Chiefs’ midfielder Petrus Shitembi and Tigers forward Ananias Gebhardt.

The team’s second match was played in Berekum against current Ghanian League champions Berekum Chelsea.

The youthful Namibians won the match 2-1 with Urikhob again on target while Tura Magic defender Teberius Lombard got the winner.

“It was a great reception we got from the home crowd and everything was well planned and arranged and the game was what we expected and our players gave their best,” said Amaning.

Berekum Chelsea is coached by Ghana national under-20 coach Orlando Wellington and boasts some senior Black Stars in their ranks as well.

“There were about 5 000 people and we played against a team which pays their players salaries of around U$5 000 and it was great win for us” Amaning added.

The Namibian team is led by under-20 coaches Bernard Kaanjuka and Ricardo Mannetti in this three-week tour.

Today they are expected to play Aduana Stars FC, the club which won the Ghana Premier League in 2009/2010.

“After that game, we will drive back to Accra to prepare for our game against Togo on Saturday in Accra” said Amaning.

The team will also play against Hassacas and Ebusua Dwarfs at Sekondi-Takorad – the venue for the 2008 Caf Nations Cup group match between Namibian and Guinea. Namibia also have a date with Liberty Professionals followed by a match against Benin.
