Luanda — Angola’s national senior basketball team will play Iran on Friday in Portugal, at the opening of the Guimarães International Tournament.
The tournament, with the participation of host Portugal and Romania, is part of the programme of preparation for Angola, African 10-time winner.
The African basketball championship will take place from August 17 to 28, in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Friday’s will be Angolan team’s first check game, following a programme of physical and technical preparation that lasted a month-and-a-half.
The second match will be played Saturday, against Portugal, before Sunday’s game with Romania.
After that, Angola’s team will travel to China to participate in the Stankovic tournament. At least fifteen basketball players are contesting among themselves for a place in the 12-element summon.
They are Milton Barros, Paulo Santana, Domingos Bonifácio, Armando Costa, Carlos Morais, Leonel Paulo, Simão Santos, Jorge Taty, Roberto Fortes, Felizardo Ambrósio, Miguel Kiala, Eduardo Mingas, Divaldo Mbunga, Valdelício Joaquim and Kikas Gomes, under coach Michel Gomez.
Angola come in Afrobasket2011 group B, along with Senegal, Chad and Morocco.
