    Former Nyanza secondary schools boy’s football champions Thurgem High yesterday defeated Lambwe High School 1-0 as the Nyanza secondary schools entered the second day yesterday. Duncan Obath scored the all important goal in the 58th minute of the tough match that was played at Cardinal Otunga High, Mosocho. Sameta Boys edged Ludhe Dongo 3-1 in another tough duel.

    Sameta went ahead in the 1st minute of the game when Amos Boriga scored before Justus Ontita added the second in the 13th minute.

    Alphonce Ondogo pulled one back for Ludhe Dongo in the 18th minute before Bogira completed his brace in the 70th minute.

    Kebaroti Boys defeated Kanyawanga Boys 2-1 in another match. Kennedy Magita scored a brace in the 20th and 61st minutes while Otieno Omondi scored Kanywanga’s consolation.

    Kanyawanga has now been eliminated having lost 1-5 to reigning champions St Mark’s Mokorogoinwa. By the time of going to press Mokorogoinwa was trailing 1-2 to Barding from Siaya County. Barding defeated Kebaroti 3-1 in another encounter.

    Favourites Kisumu Day thumped Usenge 3-0 while Lambwe Boys recovered to beat Kisii county representatives Nyakeyo 2-0.

    In girls’ football, Ogande Girls were eliminated after losing 0-1 to Gucha’s Sengera. Ogande had drawn 1-1 with St. Theresa’s in the first match.

    Nyoera from Gucha walloped Kisumu’s Magadi 4-0 while Bolo beat Homabay County’s Sindo 1-0. Kisii’s Nyaura were leading 2-0 against St Theresas from Kuria by the time of filing this story. In boy’s volleyball, Pe Hill beat St Kaiser from Nyamira County by three straight sets.

    Hosts Cardinal Otunga Mosocho narrowly lost 2-3 to Isebania Boys in tough match. Otieno Oyoo secondary school also beat Homabay Boys 3-0 while Chianda also beat Onjiko by the same sets. In the girls’ category, Nyabisawa from Migori beat Sengera girls 3-0 but Sengera recovered to beat Kebabe Girls from Nyamira by the same sets. Lwak Girls beat Ogande Girls 3-0. The games will enter the third day today where the quarterfinal qualifiers will be known. Ends
