Opuwo — Livestock farmers in Kunene have been cooperating with the state veterinarian in Opuwo and nearly 3 000 cattle have been vaccinated and eat tagged.

Opuwo state veterinarian, Shepherd Kamudyariwa, last week said his office received an overwhelming response from farmers in the region. Livestock farmers in the region are not as difficult and uncooperative as had been perceived, he said.

He said many of the farmers are just struggling to get the necessary information on time for them to understand it before the campaign starts.

“We managed to vaccinate and put the new ear tags on 2 968 cattle during the first week of the introduction of the programme and 3 898 cattle where only vaccinated without receiving ear tags,” he said.

A total of 2 630 cattle were vaccinated and tagged in the second week. During that same second week, a total of 9 707 cattle were vaccinated but they were not tagged.
