Nyeri CDF project cordinator Karanja Murigu is dead. Karanja, the cousin of area minister Esther Murugi, collapsed and died at his home on Friday night. He had, together with the minister and the CDF team together, a busy day on Friday when they hosted the Kisauni committee members in a training programme.

Karanja was in a jovial mood that day as they toured several projects in the constituency. He was found dead in his bed on Saturday morning at his Skuta home in the outskirts of Nyeri town. His death comes just few days after Murugi and her camp of eight councilors celebrated their win in the just concluded Nyeri mayoral elections. Her camp swept all the seats. Edward Muteru was elected the mayor.

Karanja, a former banker, played a key role in the elections. A close confidante of the minister, he was also involved in Murugi’s 2007 campaigns which helped her floored eight men to clinch the Nyeri Town seat. He left behind two children and a widow.
