Mathira MP Ephraim Maina is this week planning to re-introduce the Price Control Bill in Parliament that was rejected by President Kibaki. Maina says the amended Bill has addressed concerns raised by the President and has been synchronized with international standards. “Some of the amendments were in regard to harmonising it with international practices that Kenya is party to. But let us wait until the Bill comes back to the floor of the House,” he said.
Maina also maintained that the Bill would cushion underprivileged Kenyans from the rising costs of living once it is effected. “The government cannot starve its people, deny youths jobs and boast in the glory of a new constitution,” the Mathira MP said. Some business analysts argue that the Bill will, in the long term, make markets uncompetitive.
