Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has asked teachers not to send home students for school fees. Kalonzo said famine is the major problem facing the country adding that the government has already declared it a national disaster. He said majority of parents are not able to pay school fees due to prolonged drought. “Teachers should not send home children who have not paid school fees following the prolonged drought that has affected many parts of this country,” said Kalonzo.
He said the government is doing everything possible to ensure that nobody dies of starvation. Speaking on Saturday at Karura Seventh Day Adventist Church during a fund drive, Kalonzo challenged churches to take a leading role in the fight against drug abuse. He said there is need for churches to help the government fight drug abuse among other vices.
Kalonzo said schools should incorporate the parents in planning. “In other words, students must be made to feel at home even when they are in school,” said Kalonzo. He said this will enable schools impart important societal values. “We have to jealously guard, protect and preserve our African heritage through our children,” he added.
