BARELY two weeks after a 25- year-old Fulani man, Abubakar Yalle, was allegedly killed by a combined team of police and vigilantes at a poultry farm in Kwali Area Council, the victim’s family is threatening court action if the police does not investigate past activities of the vigilante leader, Idris Galadima Malam Dawa.

Spokesman of the family, Abdullahi Momodu, accused the vigilante leader of forming an illegal group with members of his family, adding that they possess illegal fire arms.

The family also alleged that the group at times connive with policemen to intimidate and assault Fulani cattle rearers residing within Kwali Area Council in order to extort money from them.

According to him, the vigilante leader has still not finished paying the one million naira promised as compensation for the killing of their relation, who was mistaken for a robber.

“Although the vigilante leader, Malam Idris Dawa, has so far given N410,000 to the family, we are still expecting N590,000 balance, which he promised to pay at the end of this month,” the spokesman said.

City News gathered from Fulani indigenes in the area that the vigilante leader, Malam Idris Mai Dawa, was a one time chief of Fulanis in Kwali, but was removed five years ago by the late Chief of Kwali, Alhaji Adamu Katsina, following protests from other Fulani elders, who accused him of intimidation.

City News further gathered from police sources at Kwali that two ex-Divisional Police Officers, Chief Superintendents Sani Umar Paiko and Usman Umar refused to work with his vigilante group.

When contacted, Kwali Area Council’s Chairman, Joseph K. Shazin, said the council has its own vigilante, which comprises of various tribes who work with the police to checkmate crime.

When contacted, FCT Police Command spokesman, Superintendent Jimoh Moshood asked for time to contact Kwali for details on the report.
