FORMER national welterweight boxing champion, John ‘The Hammer’ Chibuta has commended the Boxing Board of Control (BBC) for lifting the life ban slapped on him for sneaking out of the country without authority.
Chibuta, who regretted his action to travel to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to fight wthout clearance from the BBC, said in Chililabombwe yesterday that he was remorseful about what he did.
He said he was grateful to BBC chairperson, Nelson Sapi and the entire board for lifting the ban which was imposed on him and former cruiserweight champion, Douglas ‘Buster’ Chilembe.
Chibuta said he had appealed against his suspension where he apologised to the board for his behaviour
“I’m thankful to Mr Sapi and the entire BBC for lifting my life ban. I’m sorry for having travelled to Kinshasa last month without their (BBC) authority,” the 38-year-old boxer said.
With age catching up, Chibuta said he wanted to fight again and appealed to Exodus Boxing Promotions director, Anthony Mwamba to consider giving him a bout in his next tournament next month.
Chibuta, who last fought in October 2008, said he was eager to redeem himself in the ring and that he was training hard for any possible match-up.
