Mathare United goalkeeper Martin Musalia has been ruled out for the rest of the season after he underwent a surgery last week to treat his broken finger that have troubled him for sometime. “The operation was successful and now I will just be resting and doing the occasional therapy to ensure I heal well,” said the affable Harambee Stars custodian, whose side has been struggling in the league over the last two season and are currently eleventh in the Kenya Premier League standings four points off the relegation zone. “We are not even thinking about relegation.
The team is firmly focused on finishing as high as possible and our target now is at least to be in the top eight,” said a confident Musalia. In his absence, Mathare have had to make do with experienced Joseph Ruto , who has had stints with Tusker, City Stars and Bandari. Ruto deputised by youngster Michael Barnaba but Musalia, whose club has seen many exits over the last two years, was hopeful that the team had come of age. “We had many new players coming in and it was a bit difficult at the start. But now they have known each other and are gelling well. Things will surely change,” he opined. Mathare’s next clash will see them tackle Gor Mahia match.
