The six governors elected on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria met in Benin on Thursday to strategise on how to move the party forward.

Speaking on the occasion, the ACN National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, said the desire of the party to become the party in power must be shared by all elected members of the party.

He said that the elected members, must “ associate in unity with a view to taking a common position on matters of national significance.’’

Akande said the performance of the ACN had largely been measured, in recent times, by the good works of its governors in Lagos and Edo states and the “ catch-up efforts of our governments in Ekiti and Osun states.’’

He commended the “stimulating preliminary lay-outs being announced by the ACN governments in Oyo and Ogun.’’

According to him, ACN is called a progressive party because of the “constant directives from and fanatical insistence of our party leaders that our governments must serve the people loyally.’’

He expressed delight that the ACN governors were living up to expectations.

Akande said that although INEC guidelines stipulated roles for officers and institutions in the electoral process, it “ refused to stipulate sanctions, if these functionaries violate and abuse their roles.”

He added, “Also the guidelines neither empowered the electorate on steps to take to prevent any such abuses by these functionaries nor steps to take to seek redress.’’
